Mount Elphinstone Lodge N0.130, A.M. & A.F. B.C. & Yukon
Before Highway signs, locals would use landmarks for directions, alongside a dirt and gravel road which later would be known as Highway 101 an Iconic Building was erected in August 1947 and was situated at the corner of Roberts Creek Road
and Highway 101 on property owned by J.H. Drummond which was next to the Roberts Creek Hall.
This iconic structure was raised upon stilts by the Founding Members establishing a Masonic Lodge room. On June 19, 1948, the Grand Lodge of BC and Yukon granted a Masonic Charter to Mount Elphinstone Lodge N0.130 at Roberts Creek, B.C. The Lodge was constituted by the Grand Master on July 2, 1948, in the Masonic Hall at Roberts Creek B.C..
Mount Elphinstone Lodge has long been a part of the community, early in 1950 the Roberts Creek Hall became incorporated under the Society Act, with Roberts Creek Community Hall Board appointed Mrs. R. Hughes wife and as its first president and Mr. R. Cummings its vice-president who was a charter member and founder of Mount Elphinstone lodge and in 1959 Mr. Cummings became the worshipful Master of the Lodge.
The Masonic Hall became home to many other concordant bodies through the march of time like The Order of the Eastern Star, International Order of Jobs Daughters Bethel #28, DeMolay , Royal Arch Georgian Chapter No.39, Sunshine Coast Shrine Club #16. The Masonic Hall has also been used by others for music rehearsals, Craft Markets, Christmas Parties, OES preparations of and donations of
Cancer Dressings to Sechelt Hospital, various Non Profit food caterers and local food sharing organizations.
Today, 73 years later, the Hall is still home to Mount Elphinstone Lodge No.130 and Royal Arch Georgian Chapter #39, like so many things in all our history things do change the once filled walls echo in times of a past while renewed strength begins to march forward with common bonds, strengthening it to stand for another 75 years.
